Cinque Terre
04-01-2019
Each country has its own Christmas traditions. In Italy -in private houses, in the streets and squares of towns, in small shops and big shopping centres, generally anywhere – Christmas Cribs, called Presepi, are prepared together with Christmas Trees.
Well, you can find the biggest Presepe in the World at Manarola! Its opening ceremony takes place on December 8th and it is usually open to visitors until the beginning of February.
Don’t miss out on that opportunity! Those who visited it were enchanted by its beauty. That lighted installation was designed and built by Mr. Mario Andreoli. Since 1976 he has been devoting himself to the realization of that unique project.
After 30 years he finally managed to spread a whole hill. At last his Presepe sparkled like a rainbow at Christmas 2007 and immediately it entered the Guinness Book of Records: 6 miles of electric cables,15,000 fires, 300 full-scale figures, made of processed or unused materials, were used for the implementation of that project.
Since 2008 the Presepe has also been safe environmentally.
A Photovoltaic power station was built only for it and it supplies all the electric power it needs (13,440 kWh / year the latest data).
