discovering Lake Maggiore in wintertime
Great news for travelers dreaming of a winter escape in Italy: the third edition of “Isole di Luce” (Islands of Light) has just been confirmed!
From December 5th, 2025, to January 6th, 2026, the Isola dei Pescatori — one of the jewels of Lake Maggiore — will once again glow with light, color, and beauty.
Every evening from 5.00 P.M. to 12:30 A.M., the island will become a stage for an extraordinary light and architectural installation, transforming its stone alleys and ancient façades into a living work of art.
The event will also include spectacular light projections and art installations across the neighboring towns of Baveno, Stresa, and Verbania, creating a luminous thread that connects the entire Borromean Gulf.
🌟 A timeless island on Lake Maggiore
The Isola dei Pescatori, or Fishermen’s Island, is the only one of the Borromean Islands that is permanently inhabited.
Unlike its sisters — Isola Bella and Isola Madre, both closed to visitors in winter — this charming island retains its authentic life and atmosphere all year round.
Its narrow cobbled lanes, fishermen’s nets drying in the air, and views of the snow-capped mountains make it the perfect setting for a winter dream.
🌟 ENJOY A PRIVATE CRUISE DISCOVERING JEWELS
To celebrate this magical event, Book Your Italy has designed a special private cruise on Lake Maggiore — a journey that goes beyond the usual Borromean circuit. Accompanied by your expert skipper, you’ll sail through the lower gulf, reach the Lombard shore near the deepest point of the lake, and stop at the breathtaking Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso, perched dramatically on the cliffside.
On board, warm up with a cup of rich hot chocolate or aromatic mulled wine, paired with traditional Christmas sweets, as you admire the reflections of the illuminated islands on the still waters of Lake Maggiore.
A short stop on Isola dei Pescatori will let you stroll through its picturesque alleys, surrounded by nets, lights, and the soft scent of winter air.
