An Unmissable Exhibition for the Jubilee 2025

As part of the celebrations for the Jubileo 2025, a once-in-a-lifetime exhibition dedicated to one of the most influential artists in history, Michelangelo Merisi, better known as Caravaggio, will take place in Rome from March 7 to July 6, 2025.
Hosted at the prestigious Gallerie Nazionali di Arte Antica in collaboration with Galleria Borghese and supported by the Direzione Generale Musei of the Italian Ministry of Culture, Caravaggio 2025 promises to be an extraordinary journey into the life and works of the iconic painter.
Key Highlights of the Exhibition
The Portrait of Maffeo Barberini: A newly rediscovered work, shown for the first time alongside other paintings by Caravaggio. This marks a significant moment for art lovers and collectors alike, as this portrait has been hidden from public view for over sixty years.
Ecce Homo: One of Caravaggio’s most revered works, this masterpiece will return to Italy for the first time in centuries, after being housed in the Museo del Prado in Madrid for years.
Saint Catherine of Alexandria: Hailing from the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid, this work was once part of the Barberini collection and will now return to the Palazzo that originally housed it.
Martha and Magdalene: A rare exhibition of this artwork alongside the famous Judith at Palazzo Barberini, offering visitors the opportunity to see Caravaggio’s use of the same model in different settings.

In addition to these significant works, the exhibition will feature several other masterpieces, including three paintings commissioned by the banker Ottavio Costa: Judith and Holofernes (Palazzo Barberini), Saint John the Baptist (Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art), and Saint Francis in Ecstasy (Wadsworth Atheneum).
The collection also highlights the Barberini family’s role as major patrons of Caravaggio, with the return of The Baroque Saints (Kimbell Art Museum) to the palace where they were once kept.
A standout piece in this exhibition is the Martyrdom of Saint Ursula, the last painting created by Caravaggio before his death, graciously loaned by Intesa Sanpaolo.
