On the occasion of the genius’ anniversary, organize a private tour to Italy!
2019 will be Leonardo da Vinci year: on the occasion of the 500th anniversary from his death a lot of events, exhibitions, appointments will take place and they will be added up to his works of art kept in the permanent museum collections throughout Italy.
Leonardo was born on April 15, 1452 at Anchiano, a village on the slopes of Montalbano mount, where he spent his childhood in his birth house. We suggest you to visit it. There a hologram reproduces the features of the “genius loci” and tells his life for him.
Then on to Vinci, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, to visit Leonardiano Museum, which also houses the original exhibition section dedicated to his studies about the human body. Second stop is the Leonardiana Library, which keeps more than 13,000 works, including facsimile reproductions of manuscripts, drawings and printed works.
At Uffizi Gallery in Florence you can admire, until January 20th, the exhibition “ Water the Miccroscope of Nature”. The Leicester Code by Leonardo da Vinci, in addition to the room n. 35, which houses some of his early works, including the famous Adoration of the Magi (1481).
At Palazzo Strozzi, a retrospective exhibition dedicated to Andrea Verrocchio, whose pupil was Leonardo, will show some paintings dedicated to botany.
From central Italy, we suggest you to go up the boot and stop at Parma, to go to the Parma National Gallery (Pilotta), where a girl’s head (called La Scapigliata) is exhibited; it is a painting, perhaps unfinished, still today wrapped in mystery.
Your last stop must be Milan, where the famous Last Supper, at the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie will certainly be attacked by millions of tourists. Then, go to Ambrosiana Library, next to Piazza Duomo to admire the Codex Atlanticus, the largest and most multi-thematic collection of drawings and autograph writings by Leonardo da Vinci. Then on to the National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci, with his engineering models and above all do not miss to visit Sforza Castle, where the Sala delle Asse, decorated with an arboreal theme by Leonardo, will be re-opened to the public on 2 May 2019, after long works of restoration.
