The Hermitage of Saint Catherine on Lake Maggiore with an aperitif on board
A pleasant private cruise by taxi-boat thanks to which you will discover from a different point of view the sight of the Borromean Gulf and a quite place on the Lombard shore of Lake Maggiore: the Hermitage of St. Catherine. You will be struck by the the difference between the two shores of Verbano and you will enjoy a bottle of Italian wine with some snacks, cheese and salami.

You will meet your private licensed tourist guide at Stresa, “the pearl of Lake Maggiore”, or at Baveno.
A pleasant cruise on Lake Maggiore by a private taxi boat to enjoy the panoramic view of the Borromean Gulf and of the two lakeshores. The first part of the cruise will be along the western lakeshore, in order to admire the parks and the buildings on Isola Madre, Isola Bella and Isola dei Pescatori from the lake itself. The second part of the cruise will be along the eastern lakeshore, which is the deeper.
Your guide will give you information and anecdotes about the landscape. Then, the taxi boat will approach the cute village of Laveno Mombello and it will reach another jewel of the lake: the Hermitage of Santa Catherina del Sasso. Drop off for a guided visit to the religious complex, founded by the merchant Alberto Besozzi in 1170. His boat was overturned by Mergozzo wind near Sasso Ballaro. He desperately invoked St. Catherine of Alexandria and he was miraculously saved. In fulfillment of his vow, he retired from his business and started a solitary life in a cave. Some years later grateful to the Saint for their being saved from the plague, Alberto asked the inhabitants to build a votive chapel dedicated to St. Catherine similar the one overtopping Mount Sinai. The hermit died in 1205 and was buried near St. Catherine’s chapel.
Superb its location, clinging to the rock near the deepest zone of the lake. The convent is an ideal destination for its peace and spirituality as well.
